Sporting KC loses to Manchester City 4-1, first Champions Shield goes to England
The night had finally come. Sporting KC, MLS Cup Champions, were taking on Manchester City, EPL Champions, in an exhibition match at Sporting Park. They were playing for the first Champions Shield ever, a tradition that would hopefully continue. Man City didn’t bring any of their World Cup players to Kansas City, but still fielded a group that played on the team.
Manchester City got off to a great start after Zuculin scored a goal from twenty meters past Sporting KC’s backup goalkeeper Gruenebaum on the left side of the goal. It was a rocket that would have been tough for anyone to stop. This was a pride game for both teams and both wanted to win the match badly.
In the tenth minute Benny Felihaber had a free kick that Dom Dwyer headed and then kicked in the back of the net off the block from Man City’s goalkeeper Caballero. The goal was called off for Sporting KC being offside. A match that everyone thought was a 1-1 tie was now still 1-0.
In the thirtieth minute CJ Sapong evened the score at 1-1 when he knocked in a goal off a pass from Benny Felihaber. Sporting KC was back in business. If the match was a tie at the end of ninety minutes they would go straight to a shootout.
At the end of the first half Aleksandar Kolarov headed the ball into the back of the goal giving Manchester City the lead back at 2-1. It had been an exciting first half with tons of offense. Sporting KC needed to regroup and take back the match in the second. Honor and pride was on the line despite this being an exhibition match.
Many new faces opened the second half for Sporting KC and it would be up to them to claim the first Champions Shield. It was time for some of the younger less experienced players to show Kansas City what they were made of.
Michael Kafari almost headed one in for the tie in the sixty-sixth minute but it was blocked. Minutes later he was called for a penalty in the box giving Manchester City a penalty kick. Dedryck Boyata then knocked in the PK for a goal. Manchester City was now up 3-1.
In the eighty-eighth minute Manchester City scored again growing their lead. The match ended with Manchester City up 4-1 against Sporting KC. It was an exhibition match, but was still a Sporting KC loss.
Next up for Sporting KC is Toronto FC in Toronto on Saturday.

Philadelphia Union come out on top against Sporting KC 2-1 by kansascitysportsfan.com
Sporting KC looked to keep their lead in the Eastern Conference when they took on the Philadelphia Union at Sporting Park Wednesday night. At 5-2-2 Sporting KC had been playing well the first part of the season. Philadelphia on the other hand, was still looking for their second victory as they sat second to last in the East at 1-5-5.
This would be the last Sporting KC match for Graham Zusi and Matt Besler before they joined the US team. They could potentially be gone for two months. Sporting needed to get a win while they had their best players on the field against the Union.
At the nineteen minute mark Sporting KC had three shots and was attacking versus the Union’s two shots. Philadelphia was competing despite their poor record and was working the ball around Sporting KC’s side of the field with a few good looks.
To close out the first half Salvadore Zizzo had a great chance to score for Sporting KC on the right side of the goal just ten meters away off a pass from Zusi, but the shot was blocked by MacMath. The score remained tied 0-0 when halftime came. Sporting had taken six shots to the Union’s four shots.
At the 49th minute Danny Cruz scored for the Union off a Kronberg deflection. The Philadelphia Union were now up 1-0 showing that every team in the MLS could compete with each other. It would be an upset for the Union to win, but right now they had control of the match.
In the sixty fourth minute Sporting KC had a solid chance to score off a cross from Igor de Carvalho Juliao that was placed close to the goal, but no one from Sporting was able to get a foot or head on it for the finish and goal. Sporting was being aggressive trying to get the match to a 1-1 tie.
In the seventieth minute Dom Dwyer came into the match for Claudio Bieler looking to give Sporting KC an offensive push. It was somewhat surprising that Vermes had waited this long to put in Dom Dwyer who was tied for fourth in scoring in the MLS. They were running out of time.
In the eightieth minute Dom Dwyer gave Sporting KC the offensive push they needed when he launched a missile from outside the box into the back of Philadelphia’s goal off a pass from Paulo Nagamura. Sporting was now tied with the Union at one goal a piece.
The celebration was short lived when Cristian Maidana scored a goal for Philadelphia a minute later from a pass by Andrew Wenger in the center of the box. Sporting KC had tied the match and had the lead taken away within a matter of seconds.
When the match ended the Philadelphia Union were on top 2-1 and had upset the Eastern Conference leaders. Sporting KC looks to rebound from the loss when they take on the Chicago Fire in Chicago on Sunday.

Match Recap: Sporting KC knocks off New England, advances to next round
Sporting KC had their backs against the wall against New England on Wednesday night. They lost their first match 2-1 at New England and had to win by two to advance in the MLS Cup Playoffs. They could also win by 1 and then score in overtime or win the shootout if the match came to that. Simply put, Sporting KC was down by one goal to start the match.
C.J. Sapong almost evened the score when he took a shot just outside the box two minutes in missing left. They had to be aggressive and press early. Sapong headed another shot on goal minutes later that was grabbed by New England’s goalkeeper Matt Reis.
Eleven minutes in and Benny Feilhaber had another great shot at scoring off a pass from Dom Dwyer, but he missed high. Sporting KC was doing a good job of controlling the ball.
Sporting KC had five shots to New England’s one seventeen minutes into the match. Dom Dwyer had a header on goal that Reis had to dive for. They were creating opportunities.
Minutes later Chance Meyers and Darrius Barnes were both issued yellow cards after a scuffle on the sidelines. This was an intense match with major implications and no one was going to back down.
In the forty-first minute Aurelien Collin hit a shot several meters from New England’s goal as he was falling down that found the back of the net. The aggregate score was now 2-2 with Sporting KC up 1-0 this match. The aggressive offensive play had paid off.
Right after the second half started Dom Dwyer had a great look and shot from the center that Reis was able to defend. Sporting KC had picked up right where they left off. In the fifty-fifth minute Sporting KC took two more shots.
The first half possession was 71.6% to 28.4% in favor of Sporting KC. If this trend continued in the second half it would be tough for the Revolution to stop Sporting KC from scoring another goal.
In the seventieth minute Dimitry Imbongo scored a goal for the New England Revolution on a shot that Nielsen wasn’t quite able to get to. New England now led 3-2 in the aggregate score and was tied with Sporting 1-1 in the match. If the Revolution could hold on for twenty more minutes without allowing a goal they would advance.
Seth Sinovic came right back in the seventy-eighth minute and answered New England with a goal off a pass from Graham Zusi. The aggregate score was back to being tied at 3-3. Sporting KC wasn’t going to go away easily.
The match ended with the aggregate score being tied. Two fifteen minute periods would be played. If no one was winning by the end of the two periods they would go to a shootout.
In the one hundred thirteenth minute Claudio Bieler scored a goal with the assist from Benny Feilhaber. Sporting KC would have to defend against a Revolution goal for seven more minutes to get the victory and move on.
The aggregate score ended with Sporting KC on top 4-3. Next up would be Houston who had knocked Sporting KC out of the playoffs the previous two years. Sporting will look to avenge those losses in the Eastern Conference Championship.

MLS All-Stars fall to AS Roma 3-1
Sporting Park was booming as the MLS All-Stars prepared to take on Italy’s Serie A team AS Roma with 21,175 fans in attendance. This was a battle for the MLS by the MLS. The All-Stars were out there to prove that players in the MLS could compete and beat the best in the world.
The Italian Serie A team was loaded with talent including the famous Francesco Totti. On the other side of the field the MLS All-Stars also had some of the best talent in the world. Sporting KC had three players on the team in Graham Zusi, Aurelien Collin, and Matt Besler. All three were in the starting lineup. This would be an epic match between two great teams.
In the fourth minute AS Roma got on the board when Kevin Strootman had a breakaway and fired a shot past Raul Fernandez into the back of the net on the left side of the goal. The MLS All-Stars had their work cut out for them. Roma had come to play tonight and were treating this as an important match rather than an exhibition game. To start the match they looked more in sync.
Theirry Henry came right back and had great chance to do something with a pass from Graham Zusi just outside the box, but wasn’t able to do anything with it when Roma deflected it away. AS Roma looked a little more coordinated in their efforts, which made sense considering most of their players had all played together a long time. On the other hand, the MLS All-Stars participated in just a few practices together.
Around the thirty minute mark Di Vaio from the Montreal Impact looked to pass a ball into the box for Thierry Henry, but it was deflected away by Roma. The shot count was five to two in favor of Roma. The MLS All-Stars had to start creating more scoring opportunities if they wanted to even the match.
In the fortieth minute Roma took another shot on goal when Junior Tallo fired a ball that Fernandez was able to grab out of the air. The Italian Serie A team was on the attack and showing no signs of slowing down. Minutes later Roma had a breakaway, which Aurelien Collin broke up before they were able to get a shot off.
When the first half ended Roma was on top 1-0 against the MLS All-Stars. They looked like a stronger team initially, but the All-Stars were starting to look more in rhythm as the match wore on.
AS Roma started the second half much like the first half when Alessandro Florenzi struck a ball past Fernandez into the back of the net in the forty-seventh minute. They now led 2-0. The MLS All-Stars had to put the pressure on offensively if they wanted to catch up.
This was the eleventh time the MLS All-Stars had played an international team, and so far their record was 7-2-1. They had done a great job against phenomenal international teams, but were having difficulty on both sides of the ball tonight.
By the sixtieth minute AS Roma had seven shots with three on goal while the All-Stars had three shots with zero on goal. It had been a struggle offensively and defensively for the MLS team. With thirty minutes of play left they had to pick up the pace and find a way to score goals if they were going to walk away with a win.
In the sixty-ninth minute Roma scored again off a Junior Tallo strike. They were now up 3-0. The MLS All-Stars couldn’t figure out how to stop them. The team from Italy was putting on a show.
During stoppage time at the end of the match Omar Gonzalez from the Galaxy scored a goal off a header for the MLS All-Stars leaving them down 3-1 with little time left. It was nice to see the MLS get on the scoreboard, but it was too late for them to catch up.
The match ended with Roma winning 3-1 against the MLS All-Stars. It was a disappointing performance for the MLS, but doesn’t take away from the growing talent within Major League Soccer. The MLS is more popular than ever and that trend will continue despite the loss to Roma.

Sporting KC had a number of opportunities so far and finally one had paid off. This was the attacking aggressive team we were used to seeing.
Kamara took another great shot in the forty-fourth minute but Gruenebaum was able to deflect the ball this time. When the first half ended Sporting KC led the match 1-0 against Columbus. It had been all Sporting KC in the first half with eleven shots to three for the Crew.
All Sporting KC had to do was hold onto the lead in the second half, but you knew Peter Vermes was going to have them on the attack. Right after the half started Jairo Arrieta for Columbus scored in the forty-eighth minute to tie the match 1-1. Claudio Bieler answered right back in the fiftieth minute scoring and putting Sporting KC back on top 2-1.
Dominic Oduro for Columbus came right back and scored in the fifty-third minute to tie the match 2-2. In five minutes of play three goals had been scored. Columbus was getting after it and Sporting KC had their hands full.
In the sixty-third minute Chance Meyers crossed the ball to Kamara who was unable to do anything with it. Sporting KC now had sixteen shots to five for the Crew, but the score remained tied 2-2. Sporting KC was creating opportunities and looking good on offense.
Graham Zusi passed a great ball for Kamara who was unable to score in the seventy-fifth minute just meters from the Crew’s goal. Sporting KC was attacking, but running out of time.
In the eightieth minute Kei Kamara kicked in another goal off a pass from Claudio Bieler to put Sporting KC up 3-2. If Sporting KC could play tough D and not let Columbus score in the next ten minutes of play they would win the match. The crowd was going crazy.
When the match ended Sporting KC was on top 3-2 claiming the victory. Next up for Sporting KC is Vancouver at Sporting Park the night before the Fourth of July.

Sporting KC knocked out of the U.S. Open Cup by Orlando City
Tonight would be a difficult test for Sporting KC as they took on
their affiliate, Orlando City SC. Despite
being in the USL Orlando City was a solid team, and had already knocked the
Colorado Rapids of the MLS out of the U.S. Open Cup. Sporting KC looked to win and continue their
quest to win a second U.S. Cup in a row.
Once again Sporting KC was missing some key players in Matt Besler and Graham Zusi who were currently with the U.S. team. They were also missing Kei Kamara and a few others who were also playing for their countries.
In the second minute, Long Tan scored for Orlando City putting them on top 1-0. Orlando City wasn’t messing around. Dom Dwyer, their dominant scorer, wasn’t eligible for this match, but Long Tan had stepped up. Sporting KC had to be uneasy knowing their affiliate was on top 1-0. Fortunately, time was on their side.
Not long after Paulo Nagamura had a header off a corner kick at Orlando City's goal, but it was grabbed by their goalkeeper Gallardo. Sporting KC had to be on the attack if they wanted to even the score. Everyone knew Orlando City was fired up for this match, but not many people thought they could actually pull off the upset and win.
It was encouraging to see that Sporting KC had a competitive affiliate team with a lot of talent, but it was more important to win the match being played. Orlando City wanted to prove they could play with MLS teams, which they really already had when they beat Colorado. They were once again stepping up to the challenge against Sporting KC.
Josh Gardner had a decent shot on goal in the twenty-first minute missing wide right. Felihaber took a shot a few minutes later also missing. Sporting had been hovering around Orlando’s goal for several minutes unable to score and tie up the match. They were on the attack.
Orlando City’s defense was proving to be too strong for Sporting KC in the first half and at halftime still led 1-0 off Long Tan’s early goal. Sporting KC had to perform better in the second half if they wanted to stay alive in the U.S. Open Cup.
Ten minutes into the second half and Orlando City remained on top. Sporting KC was running out of time and it looked more and more like Orlando was within reach of pulling off the huge upset. Orlando City had done a great job defending since scoring in the first two minutes.
So far, Sporting KC had eleven shots to Orlando’s two. They had put together good opportunities to get on the board. They just weren’t able to finish up to this point.
Seth Sinovic kicked a rocket at Orlando City's goal in the sixty-third minute missing high. Five minutes later C.J. Sapong had a perfect ball to kick in several feet from Orlando’s goal, but wasn’t able to put it in. A golden opportunity had come and gone. There wouldn’t be many more of those. Sporting KC had to capitalize at some point to even the match.
Teal Bunbury came into the game in the seventy-fifth minute. This was his first game back since tearing his ACL last year when his left leg planted in the ground the wrong way. Hopefully he could help Sporting KC tie up the match.
That never happened and Orlando City SC came out on top 1-0 pulling off the upset. Orlando City proved they could beat any team in the MLS. It will be interesting to see how far they go in the U.S. Open Cup. No one should take them lightly.

Sporting KC falls to the Portland Timbers
3-2
Sporting KC held the top spot in the Eastern Conference entering the match on Saturday with a record of 4-2-2 while the Portland Timbers were fourth in the Western Conference at 2-1-4. Portland led the MLS in ties with four and had compiled a strong team that could compete with anyone.
Coming off a road loss in LA Sporting KC was looking to get the win tonight and maintain their status as the best team in the East. Eleven seconds in and Paulo Nagamura passed a ball into the box that was deflected away by Portland. Matt Besler then had a corner kick that he kicked to Chance Myers who headed it into the back of the Portland’s net past Donovan Ricketts to put Sporting KC up 1-0 forty-three seconds into the match. The number one pick from 2008 had scored his first goal of the year. That didn’t take long.
Portland came back strong on the offensive side with a few shots of their own. Two of those shots were on goal and one hit the top crossbar. The Timbers were not going away.
At twenty-three minutes C.J. Sapong had a good shot on goal that Ricketts was able to grab out of the air. Moments later Portland worked the ball back down the field to Sporting KC’s goal. Ryan Johnson was then able to score a header on a pass from Diego Valeri in the center of the box. Twenty-five minutes in and the match was now tied 1-1. Both teams looked good offensively and neither had been able to play lock down defense.
Chance Myers scored another goal in the twenty-ninth minute of the match off a pass from Aurelien Collin. Myers had the hot foot tonight. A player in Chance Myers that typically wasn’t a scorer was coming up huge tonight with two goals in the first half.
Sporting KC’s 2-1 lead didn’t last long when Darlington Nagbe scored off a pass from Ryan Johnson three minutes later. Portland and Kansas City were showcasing two dynamic offenses that could both score a number of ways. Sporting KC has one of the best defenses in the MLS and Portland had broken it down twice now. The score remained tied 2-2 at the half.
Both teams continued attacking on offense when the second half started and at fifty-two minutes Diego Valeri passed a ball into Sporting KC’s box which was deflected away. It’s safe to say that Jimmy Nielsen probably had a defensive pep talk in the locker room at half with the rest of the team.
At fifty-eight minutes Rodney Wallace scored a goal past Nielsen into the left side of the goal to give Portland the lead at 3-2. The superb defense that Sporting KC had relied on all year was being infiltrated. This would be a huge road win for the Portland Timbers if they could come out with the win.
Graham Zusi had a corner kick for Aurelien Collin in the sixty-fifth minute, but Portland was able to clear it. Both teams were playing aggressive and a couple of minutes later Paulo Nagamura got knocked to the ground. He was able to stay in the game after being checked on.
Sporting KC had several attempts to score, but was unable and fell to Portland 3-2. Portland had done well to win the match after being down 1-0 one minute into play. It was a sell-out with 20,186 in attendance. Next up for Sporting KC is Chivas USA on May 5 at home.

Sporting KC beats DC United 1-0 with a goal in the 89th minute
Sporting KC faced off against a tough D.C. United team at home with a packed crowd Friday night. Fans were hungry for more after the 2-0 win against Montreal last Saturday. DC United was struggling this year, but had finished second to Sporting KC in the regular season Eastern Conference standings in 2012 and had advanced to the Eastern Conference finals. D.C. United, like Sporting KC, had fallen to Houston in the playoffs. They had gotten off to a slow start going 1-2-1 in their first four games. Despite DC United’s shaky start to the season they were a strong team and still a force to be reckoned with.
After dominating an undefeated Montreal team last game Sporting KC came into the match with a ton of confidence. Within the first minute Graham Zusi passed a ball into the box for Claudio Bieler. Sporting was picking up right where they left off.
At the thirteenth minute Graham Zusi had a deep free kick that he passed into the box only to be headed out by DC United. Sporting KC was getting quality looks. Both teams looked fairly even matched with neither team getting a shot off through fifteen minutes.
Minutes later Claudio Bieler had a solid header at DC United’s goal that missed wide right. It was going to be tough to score on DC United’s goalkeeper Bill Hamid. Hamid is one of the best goalkeepers in in the MLS and always makes teams work hard for goals.
In the twenty-eighth minute Chance Meyers passed to CJ Sapong in the box with Sapong unable to finish. Sporting KC had taken the only two shots of the game and was slightly winning the possession battle. At thirty-seven minutes CJ Sapong had another shot on goal off a pass from Bieler which was snagged out of the air by Hamid.
Sporting KC had a great opportunity to score at the end of the 1st half, but wasn’t able to finish and score a goal. At halftime the score was tied 0-0. The Sporting KC defense had another exceptional half only allowing DC United to one shot.
When the second half began Sporting KC continued to attack getting off a couple of shots early. Fifty-three minutes in and the shot count was eight to one in favor of Sporting KC. They were controlling the game but had been unable to score. So far, this was another positive outing on both sides of the ball. They just needed to punch one of these shots into the back of the net.
At sixty-four minutes Benny Felihaber shot a missile on DC United’s goal from the left side that missed right. DC United had to feel fortunate being tied 0-0 at this point in the match. No doubt Sporting KC was wondering when one of their shots would go in.
In the seventieth minute Zusi took another Sporting KC shot missing high. Time was the only obstacle for Sporting. A few minutes later Carlos Ruiz took a shot on Sporting KC’s goal that was grabbed by Nielsen. Ruiz took another shot in the eighty-second minute that Nielsen had to dive and grab for the save.
After checking into the game roughly eighty minutes in Soony Saad passed to Claudio Bieler who struck a shot that found the back of the net in the eighty-ninth minute. Wow. Sporting KC had come through just in time and was now on top 1-0. If they could hold off for a few more minutes they would claim the victory.
When the horn sounded Sporting KC had won the match against DC United 1-0 scoring at the very end. Sporting KC had won in epic fashion and once again made Kansas City proud of their soccer team. They will go to New York to take on the Red Bulls April 17th for their next match.

Sporting KC beats Montreal 2-0
Sporting KC came into the match holding a 1-2-1 record while Montreal was at 4-0 still having not lost a game this season. No doubt this would be a great test for Sporting KC. They now had Graham Zusi and Matt Besler who just returned from playing with the US team.
Sporting KC struck quickly with a goal from Claudio Biehler five minutes into the match. A great pick up from Sporting KC in the offseason. Claudio had proved to be the offensive leader for Sporting KC this season. The undefeated Montreal Impact were in trouble.
At fourteen minutes Aurelien Collin had an opportunity to knock a header into the goal, but wasn’t quite able to finish. Sporting KC was once again putting the pressure on the opposing team.
Another great opportunity to score came and went at twenty-three minutes when Zusi passed off to Claudio Bieler who struck his shot high over the goal. If Sporting KC continued to get quality shots they were going to keep scoring. On the other hand, the Montreal Impact couldn’t seem to get their offense going and still had 0 shots taken.
Towards the end of the half Graham Zusi had a corner kick that Chance Meyers looked to get his head on but Troy Perkins grabbed it out of the air. So far Sporting KC had been relentless. Moments later Claudio Bieler took another great shot but didn’t score. It had been a one sided match so far with Sporting swinging the hammer. Halftime came and Sporting KC was on top 1-0.
This was a statement game for Sporting KC. Despite a rocky start in their first four games a win over Montreal would show the rest of the MLS that they were still one of if not the best team in the Eastern Conference.
In the fiftieth minute Chance Meyers struck a shot on goal that missed right. Everyone was getting shots. Montreal looked frustrated on both offense and defense. Minutes later Seth Sinovic had a good look as well also missing right.
Jimmy Nielsen made a great stop when Marco Di Vaio shot on Sporting KC’s goal. Jimmy Nielsen was continuing his reign as one of the elite goalkeepers in the MLS. It definitely helped him having Besler back in the lineup after the USA game against Mexico.
In the eightieth minute Graham Zusi had a break away run with one defender next to him and was able to score a goal after he got his shot past Perkins. Sporting KC was now on top 2-0. The Cauldron was now chanting “overrated.” Victory was ten minutes away.
The game ended with Sporting KC beating the Montreal Impact 2-0. We had knocked off the undefeated Impact. This match showed that Sporting KC is one of the best teams in the MLS. They had beaten a good Montreal squad in every area of the game.

Sporting KC plays the New England Revolution to a 0-0 Draw
Coming into Saturday Sporting KC’s record was 1-1-1 as they faced the New England Revolution. A win would put Sporting KC in third place in the Eastern Conference behind Philadelphia and Montreal. They were missing two of their stars in Matt Besler and Graham Zusi who are currently playing with the USA Men’s team.
Five minutes into the match at Gillette Stadium and neither team had gotten a shot off. Soony Saad was starting for Sporting KC becoming the youngest player to ever start for the club at just over twenty years old. It was the home opener for the Revolution making it the third in four matches this season that Sporting KC had been the visiting team.
At ten minutes both teams had equal possession of the ball thus far. Still no shots had been struck by either team.
Benny Feilhaber struck a free kick into the box at eleven minutes but it was quickly grabbed by Matt Reis, the goalkeeper for New England. This was the closest either team had come to scoring.
Finishing atop the Eastern Conference the year before Sporting KC was usually the aggressor in getting shots off. So far the Revolution had done a great job at neutralizing Sporting KC’s attack. There was still a lot of soccer left to be played.
Soony Saad passed a great ball to C.J. Sapong roughly fifteen meters away from the goal which Sapong struck high over the goal. This was the first real chance Sporting KC had at scoring and it looked like they were coming into rhythm with each other. If they could continue getting good looks it would be tough for the Revolution to keep them from scoring.
Nineteen minutes in and C.J. Sapong hit a shot off the top post of New England’s goal. Benny Feilhaber had a great look and shot off the deflection that was scooped up by Reis. Sporting KC was getting closer and closer to punching in a shot for a goal.
Claudio Bieler had another good shot on New England’s goal off a free kick at thirty-four minutes, but was unable to score as Reis grabbed the shot out of the air. Even though the score remained 0-0 Sporting KC had looked like the stronger team so far with six shots to zero shots for the Revolution.
At the end of the first half the score remained 0-0. Neither team was able to score, but Sporting KC had been the more offensive team in the first half.
Soony Saad struck a corner kick to Seth Sinovic who passed it to Ike Opara for a header shot at forty-nine minutes. Opara couldn’t capitalize unable to put enough speed on the ball, but once again Sporting KC had given a good effort. At this point in the match Sporting KC had eight shots to zero shots for the Revolution.
In the sixty-eighth minute of the match the Revolution had a good opportunity to score with a few passes just outside the box, but weren’t able to get a shot off. This was the closest they had come to scoring the whole match.
AJ Soares had a chance to score for New England off a corner kick from Lee Nguyen several minutes later missing left on the header. The Revolution had begun to put on more offensive pressure with time running out. Neither team could find a way to score.
The match ended in a 0-0 tie. Sporting KC had done well at creating shots. New England had three shots with zero on goal while Sporting KC had thirteen shots with five on goal. Next Saturday in Kansas City Sporting KC will take on the Montreal Impact who is at the top of the Eastern Conference with an undefeated record of 3-0.
