@KUBasketballteam nice opening game guys. All we have heard about is Andrew Wiggins who did look awesome, but there were a bunch of other new guys like Tarik Black, Joel, Embiid, Frank Mason, Brannen Greene, and Wayne Selden Jr. who looked great. Perry was scoring baskets like usual. Pumped for this year!

Jayhawks take home the CBE Hall of Fame Classic Championship against Saint Louis by kansascitysportsfan.com
Coming off a blowout win against Washington State the Jayhawks were looking to repeat that performance. Their opponent, Saint Louis, had a similar story the night before beating Texas A&M 70-49.
Right off the tip Ben McLemore dunked on an assist from Elijah Johnson. The freshman had looked like he would go off the night before scoring ten points in the first ten minutes, but ended up scoring eleven points for the game.
Releford hit a three pointer four minutes in. Moments later he hit another three. Leading all scorers with seventeen last night, Releford wanted to play well in his hometown. Again, another three. Seven minutes into the game and KU had picked up right where they had left off leading Saint Louis 14-4.
After beating A&M by twenty-one no one would be taking Saint Louis lightly including the Jayhawks. With ten minutes left in the half Releford hit another three. He now had seventeen points in the first half leading the Hawks to a 28-14 lead. The Jayhawks were in control.
At halftime the Jayhawks were on top 39-25. The story of the night was Travis Releford who had twenty-one points in the first half. The Kansas City native couldn’t miss. He was the only one. At halftime KU was shooting forty-two percent from the floor and Saint Louis was worse at twenty-six percent from the field.
To start the second half McCall knocked down a three for Saint Louis to put them down by eleven. Naadir Tharpe hit a three with fifteen minutes to put the Jayhawks up by sixteen, but Saint Louis would come back to score followed by a three from Jake Barnett. They had cut the lead to eleven.
Elijah Johnson scored to put the Hawks up by eighteen with ten minutes to play. Even though everyone expected a competitive game it looked like KU was too much for Saint Louis. Up to this point the Billikens were just twelve for thirty-seven from the floor and unable to get into rhythm on offense. Bill Self’s patented lockdown D was working.
Cody Ellis got hot knocking down a few shots seven minutes to go to get Saint Louis within ten of KU. The Billikens were getting back in the game, but they were running out of time. Releford had a huge dunk with five minutes to go getting the lead back to fourteen. Jeff Withey proved to be too much for Saint Louis to handle late scoring multiple times in the final five minutes.
When the final buzzer sounded the Kansas Jayhawks had defeated the Saint Louis Billikens 73-59. Withey tied his career high with twenty-five points and Releford helped out with twenty-three. The Jayhawks had two solid outings in Kansas City and showed much improvement in their play. They look to keep the momentum going next Monday against the San Jose State Spartans.

@Jayhawks congratulations to the Jayhawks for winning the Sunflower Showdown against Kansas State. What a game. Good job on D Releford, holding McGruder to 2 points in the first half. Also, solid work offensively, leading Kansas with 12 points. You proved to the world you could play in the NBA tonight. Playing like “junk yard dogs” is what it took. @Wildcats keep your heads up. You guys can beat anyone in the country, and have shown through the first half of the season that you have the ability to make deep run in the NCAA tournament. #traditionsnevergetold
